Getting started... The Howe Girls

We are two sisters who have decided to write some memories of their lives growing up on a dairy farm in Vermont.  I am Nancy Jean, born 24 November 1947; sister Susan was born 25 May 1954. With there being several years between our birthdates, we have many surprisingly different but similar remembrances of days on the farm. When Susan Jane was born, I remember being so MAD! She was supposed to have been a boy, as I needed some help at the barn. Little did we know that when Robert James arrived the next year (20 April 1955), we all rejoiced, for so many differing reasons! Our second-in-line sister, Carol Anne was born on 6 May 1951 ... she and I were the worker bees around the farm, as soon as she was old enough. Of course, being the eldest meant that I did have lots to do, starting when we moved to the "old Cilley place" in the fall of 1952. That year, I started school at the Market two-room school house, with Miss Hill as my first grade teacher. Alan and I walked or rode together to school everyday. I honestly do not remember if someone drove us when it snowed!
